Bauhaus of the Seas Sails measured its impact carefully – and broadly. The project’s monitoring, evaluation and learning framework, developed by TU Delft, was built from the ground up because the standard tools for evaluating publicly funded projects were not designed for this kind of work. They can count outputs. They struggle with the moment a senior resident in Venice, asked to evaluate a digital prototype designed by a student, realises that someone has finally asked what she thinks.What follows is an honest account of what the project achieved – in numbers where numbers are available and in evidence where they are not.

— 2,500+ citizens engaged in creative learning activities across seven cities;
— 7 lighthouse demonstrators delivered across 4 aquatic ecosystems;
— 27 peer-reviewed and open-access scientific publications;
— 6 replication toolkits developed and made freely available;
— 7 structured replication proposals for post-project uptake;
— 100+ public events and activities across Europe and beyond;
— 890 citizens reached by Malmö’s Ocean Ambassadors alone;
— 360 participants on Venice lagoon boat trips;
— 350 participants in Hamburg’s School of Survival food experiences.
